Creatives tend to self doubt (often). For me, I felt like anyone could pick up a camera. How will I ever stand out?
Anyone can pick up a camera, but not many people can combine the skill of photography, giving clear directions to others and editing with a warm, welcoming experience. A big part of the experience is personality. Another part is experience and a professional mindset. I was gifted with the ability to work well with anyone. I laugh easily and smile often. I want my clients to have a positive experience that feels personal and mindful of their own needs. I feel lucky that I get to have lots of laughs, smiles, and fun working with my clients. And while I can be outgoing, my little introvert soul respects comfortable silence. I am happy to have music playing while we work, so there is no pressure to match any high energy.
As for my photography, I have been able to use my background in fine art to do something I love with a skill level that others can appreciate for many years. And even though we’re seeing more and more easy editing tools anyone can use, I know not everyone is comfortable with automations and apps controlling the outcome of their photos. Luckily, I have over 25 years experience working in Lightroom and Photoshop. I take the time to edit each image myself. I know I don’t look it, but I am over 40 now! Wow! So I have two decades of professional photography experience behind my goof ball grin.
